As a proud grandmother I am giving both my grand-kids a well deserved ataboy.
The first 1 is really an atagirl and goes to Brianna. This atagirl is long overdue since she actually earned it more than 5 years ago, long before I set up this blog. While in elementary school Brianna earned the 1st place award and prize for having the best conservation slogan and poster in the areas conservation contest. And while we had to help her understand what conservation means she came up with her own words and made the poster herself. (I am pointing this out because many parents around here do the work and put the child’s name on it. We didn’t!)

Atagirl Bridanna for doing a good job all by yourself!
The second ataboy goes to Austin for doing a community service last month. Austin is an avid skateboarder and knows how hard it is to be a skateboarder in a community that doesn’t have any place for skateboarders to practice. With no skateparks, mostly brick streets and badly maintained sidewalks means skaters have to provide their own equipment and be creative about where to use it.
Unfortunately some skaters either don’t know or don’t care that being creative about where to practice doesn’t mean you can be destructive. So last month some park benches in 1 of our downtown parks were dirtied and scuffed by skateboarders. When my grandson and some of his friends heard about the damage they went to the park to clean up and repair the benches. This action was not prompted or forced by their parents since none of us knew about it until a story appeared in the local paper along with the names and pictures of the boys doing the work.

(My grandson is the 1 in front with the light colored shirt and I think that is 1 of his skateboards resting against the wall.)
Ataboy Austin for knowing what it means to be a good citizen!
Those are my 2 ata-girls/boys. If you would like to give 1 to a young person for doing something special please feel free to leave a comment and tell us who you’re proud of and what they did.
To Your Success,
Susan
Update
I’d like to add an ataboy for the creators of Twitter. Yesterday I read an article, “Twitter Proves Its Worth During Iran Protests.” It seems Twitter had scheduled their site to be down for an upgrade however they rescheduled when they found it was being used to keep people informed of what was happening in real time.
