I Thought I Was An Under Achiever Until …

Yesterday I received a comment from someone unsubscribing from my FriendsWhoCare Newsletter that totally shocked me!

It read -

“too many emails”

OK, I admit it. I normally send 2 to 3 emails a week and occasionally 4. But I can explain!

  • Every Tuesday I send out an announcement when our free classifieds are ready. Since many subscribers want to advertise in them I thought I should tell people when the new ones were online.
  • 9 months of the year I send out a weekly announcement that my latest tip is available. The other 3 months I only send 2 mailings a month about a new tip.
  • I try to email at least 1 promotional message a week for my latest deal or some other product, service or giveaway. (I said try because sometimes I don’t get around to it.)
  • On rare occasions I send out an extra mailing because I’ve discovered something I think you should know about. These are mailings for warnings, fun or free things you may find useful.

And although I’ve never taken the time to find my average number of mailings I’d bet it would be 3 or less a week. And of those, 2 are providing a subscriber service, free classifieds and tip. Alright, you caught me, I sometimes promote something in my classified or tip mailing. But not always!

Now since I received the comment I took the time to review the number of emails I get from some very successful online marketers and found that they normally send me no less than 4 a week. In fact, it’s usually higher and many times I get several mailings  in a single day from some of them. I also noted that sometimes they send either the same mailing with a different subject 2 or more times or different messages about the same promotion. Also, they almost always send me a message when what they’re promoting is about to become unavailable. And a lot of them send me the same pre-written message. Very few of them ever send me any useful information unless it’s contained in either a pre-sale or sale video and those that do only send information about once a month.

So here are the questions:

  1. Do I really send out too much email?
  2. On average, how many emails should I be sending?

I would appreciate as many answers and suggestions I can get.

Thanks,
Susan

    Short questions get short answers,so…..
    1.No.
    2.3/4 per week
Don’t lose sleep over the bail-out loser. That sort would
complain if they won $100,000 in Lotto, and it would be the
    fault of someone else.

  2. Susan, I’m pretty sure that you didn’t understand that comment.

That subscriber didn’t say that YOU sent too many emails.

That subscriber was RECEIVING too many emails … GENERALLY speaking. I know many people who subscribe to a lot of ezines
and then they are overloaded and unsubscribe from all of them. They indeed receive too many emails: one from you,
    one from me, etc.

You got it? There is nothing wrong with you!

  3. Hi Susan,

I’m thinking they meant too many emails overall, not necessarily from you. We’re all buried in it. I’m unsubcribing to a lot myself - but I’m keeping yours ;-)

I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

I have not unscribed from you.. Problem today is that all the ‘gurus’ and wantabees
are all sending the same stuff. So its over and over and over. I delete .

I enjoy your tips and have had the pleasure of speaking to you. I work online and

  10. I get at least 3 to 5,000 emails in a week , I sucribe to a lot news, rarley do I By any thing , I belive he was speaking of too many emils in his email acount , probly because of the limit.
I generaly weed out a lot of them simply because the rattle on with endless chatter and no real value. I simply like
your page and have recived a few leads from the tuesday ads. When you recieve a downhome country feel like Friends who care you know you are getting value and thats the Bottom Line .
    Keep it up

  12. Hi Susan,

I don’t have a problem with the number of
your emails. Far less that some of the
other folks send. You’re OK in my book!

  13. Susan,
I was quite surprised someone would comment too many emails when you provide so much value. Being fairly new (less than a year), I would love to image your success. I also agree about the emails from the “big” boys. I average 75-100 a day. They too offer value but as you mention, I feel sometimes their personalization is lacking. I see nothing wrong with getting your regular mails as well as new updates as they arise.

    I appreciate your work.
